Deep Discussions with Decapitated Dan: Bo Hampton

I recently had a chance to talk to Bo Hampton about his new Kickstarter Project 3 Devils and more. Check it out:

Decapitated Dan: Hey Bo thanks for taking time to talk with me about 3 Devils . First of all lets talk about you. Who are you and what do you do?

Bo Hampton: Bo Hampton, long-time comics artist/writer.

DD: How did you find yourself getting into making comics?

BH: Copying Jesse Marsh Tarzan coloring book drawings is my earliest memory of drawing.

DD: Before we dive into it, what is the link to the Kickstarter page?

BH: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/799157231/3-devils?ref=live

DD: So what can you tell me about 3 Devils? What’s it all about?

BH: It’s about 80 pages, Dan. Ha—old joke, I know. It’s a Supernatural Western. A young gypsy girl whose parents were killed by a vampire, an ex-slave turned Zuvembie by a Haitian Witch and a Freak Show Wolf-Man who has been bitten by a Werewolf swear a pact of vengeance against the supernatural entities that caused their torment...the 3 Devils.

DD: Where did this idea come from?

BH: I like to defer to the Geni from Popeye’s Sinbad cartoon for this question—“ it comes from the nowhere-- it goes to the no-place.” Or something...

DD: If you were to give this book a movie style rating (G, PG, PG-13, R,  X) what would it get, and why would you say that?

BH: PG –13 –for violence and some language including the “N” word [ One of the main protagonists is a former slave—and this happens in 1873.]

DD: What are you hoping readers can take away from this story?

BH: The feeling that they’ve been on a great ride with people they care about.

DD: Were you into any horror titles growing up that lead you to want to create a book like this?

BH: Warren and EC horror books.

DD: Is this a series that you want to come back to in the future?

BH: There were hopefully be 4 80pg. books in the series.

DD: What are some of your Kickstarter Rewards/Pledge Levels?

BH: Original pages—starting at $150 [includes a “remarked” book—For a signed copy of the book it’s just $15—shipped.

DD: What was the most horrific thing that happened to you when you were working on this book?

BH: Trying to find a European publisher.

DD: Can we expect more from you horror comic wise in the future?

BH: Always, Dan.

DD: So where can readers find out more about this book?

BH: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/799157231/3-devils?ref=live

DD: So in summary give me a quick recap on 3 Devils and why fans should give it a try.

BH: If you want to read a great fast-moving supernatural western with believable characters—no matter how preposterous their circumstances may be--
you’ll dig it.

DD: Thanks so much for your time Bo.

BH: Thank YOU!!
