CALIBAN reveals cover artwork for upcoming album Ghost Empire
CALIBAN guitarist Marc Görtz comments on the art of Ghost Empire that was created by UK artist Chris Lovell:
"Another
great artist told me about Chris and his art; when I checked out his
page I loved his style and amazing drawings straight away... I told him
what the album is about and he said that he would love to do it. It
didn't take long for him to come up with first ideas which were amazing!
I hope we can work with him on other projects in the future; he is a
great guy and easy to work with and I think the result speaks for itself!"
Chris Lovell (http://www.christopherlovell.com/), the creator of the image, explains how this custom piece of art came to life:
"I
have been heavily into metal since the age of 12. It's always nice when
a band I am a fan of contacts me with a brief for a project. I was
stoked to read Marc's ideas as post-apocalyptic imagery is something I
have an obsession with. I grew up loving films like 'Mad Max', 'Cyborg'
and the 'Fist Of The North Star' anime. There's something about
destroyed buildings and wastelands that stir my imagination and conjure
up all kinds of haunting images in my head. It's also much more fun and
easier to draw ruined buildings than perfect ones!
Marc
and I brainstormed ideas one evening and we came up with lots of
elements we liked such as crows, scarecrows, rats, etc. I sketched out a
very rough concept idea and layout for the basic image. The front and
back cover is all in one, so I had a nice wide landscape to work with. I
liked the idea of a road on the main cover, leading to what could look
like a hive of collapsed skyscrapers and buildings leaning on each other
and climbing into the clouds. On the left side, a cliff face leading
down to stormy seas and a shoreline littered with shipwrecks and
capsized boats. I wanted the image to look void of human life and
haunting. I drew out the bulk of the main image in pencil, then used
inks and acrylic paint to add depth and highlights. I then scanned the
image in and coloured it with a graphics tablet on Photoshop. I drew a
number of other elements like telegraph poles, crows, skulls and rats
and scanned them in separately. I wanted to be able to experiment with
placement and give the band the option to move elements around. I lost
track of how many hours I put into the piece; it all becomes a blur. I
like to stream horror movies or listen to music and just lose myself in
the art I make. I have a bit of an obsession with detail and I tend to
spend hours tweaking elements on an image people will probably never
even notice. CALIBAN have been a pleasure to work with... it is an
honour to have done the artwork for what will be an amazing album!"

HEART OF A COWARD premiere video for "Psychophant" from the album SEVERENCE
In stores Tuesday via Century Media
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2013
In anticipation of their new album SEVERENCE, which will be released on Tuesday, November 12 in North America, HEART OF A COWARD is premiering a new video for their song "Psychophant." Both song and video feature a guest performance from Scott Kennedy of BLEED FROM WITHIN.
Check out the video via New Noise:
Singer Jamie Graham had this to say about the song and video: "'Psychophant
is a play on words for 'Sycophant'- someone who just lives leeching off
others, but taken to a psychotic level. We asked (Scott) Kennedy to
jump on the track after we all toured together back in early 2013. It's
one of the heavier, simpler songs on the album and follows the night of a
total prick who gets everything coming to him! Everyone knows someone
like this and it begs the question of how happy you are with your own
life. We love playing this one live!'"
Next on HEART OF A COWARD's agenda is extensive touring. Check back for North American dates.

Obliteration: Full Album Stream at Noisey
Ahead of its November 11, 2013 North American release via Relapse Records, the full deadly force of OBLITERATION's new album Black Death Horizon, is now streaming via VICE's music portal Noisey. The album will be available in digital, CD, and LP formats, and as Darkthrone godfather Fenriz says, is "A brand new old organic sounding death metal masterpiece."
LISTEN, WORSHIP: HERE
Hailing from Kolbotn, Norway (the home of Darkthrone) Obliteration are true heirs to a long line of gritty Scandinavian death metal. Black Death Horizon both
invokes the classics of the genre and puts a new and fresh spin on the
sound to make it their own. Pitchfork notes, " If you liked to hear
Celtic Frost and Darkthrone go out searching for something strange, Obliteration wields that weirdness like a newborn superpower."
Weekend Nachos: 'Still' Streaming Now at Decibel
Chicago, IL’s powerviolence kings, WEEKEND NACHOS are streaming their crushing, hateful new record Still over at Decibel Magazine who said of the record: "One spin through Still and
we’re still trying to get the hurt out of our ears and the smiles off
our dumb-ass faces." Twelve tracks of hateful aural punishment, Still will
see a November 11th release via Relapse Records (CD/Digital), Deep Six
Records (Vinyl), and Toxicbreed's Funhouse (Cassette). Listen to the
record HERE. Pre-orders are available via Relapse here.
Additionally, the quartet will be touring in support of the new record this fall. A complete listing of confirmed tour dates and cities can be found below.
Skinless: Re-Sign to Relapse Records
Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the official re-signing of recently reunited New York Death Metal legends SKINLESS! Formed in 1992, in Albany, New York, SKINLESS have
released four full-length albums and numerous EPs throughout their 20+
year career. After disbanding in 2011, the group is now back together
with the classic Progression Towards Evil line-up
(Sherwood Webber-Vocals, Noah Carpenter-Guitar, Joe Keyser-Bass, Bob
Beaulac-Drums) plus the recent addition of Dave Matthews on second
guitar.
The group will begin writing their long awaited follow-up to 2006's Trample The Weak, Hurdle The Dead which
is expected to be released in late 2014. In the meantime, fans can
catch SKINLESS at the inaugural Denver Black Sky Fest. Founded by SKINLESS vocalist,
Webber, Denver Black Sky will be held on December 14th, 2013. The
three-stage event features a very special “Grind In The Round” stage and
offers up a ridiculously sick lineup of: Dying Fetus, Ghoul, Exhumed,
Speedwolf, Power Trip, Mammoth Grinder, Call Of The Void, Reproacher,
Weekend, Nachos, Iron Reagan, Axeslasher, Primitive Man, Vimana, Of
Feather And Bone, Native Daughters, Black Sleep Of Kali, Dead Temple and
Flight Of Sleipnir. Following their imminent devastation of
Denver, SKINLESS will punish upstate New York with two already sold out
shows at the Upstate Concert Hall. Additional dates to be announced in
the coming weeks. Get your riot gear ready.
